TECHNOLOGY AS A TOOL FOR SOCIAL PROGRESS

FUTURES AND BEYOND is an architecture + design research platform that explores the impact of technology on society.
Utilising fictocritical, narrative driven techniques, FAB seeks to explore the near, + sometimes distant future, asking what we can do now to create, or at the very least; influence the future we wish to inhabit.

Usually critical by nature, members of FAB use tangible, story-telling methods to deconstruct contemporary issues + societal risks, excavating to the root cause and challenging the assumed truths + mythologies of 21st century cultures before reconstructing a near-future iteration of their studied society, creating the architectural typologies that would enable it.

Technology is the enabler of this process, but the goal is always socio-political.

“architecture is a political act, by nature. It has to do with the relationships between people and how they decide to change their conditions of living.”

Lebbeus Woods

Where technology has dramatically reshaped the way we live over the past century, FAB aims to use the language of science, efficiency, productivity, yield, growth etc. to write the human stories of a better world.
